The DB12 Goldfinger Edition comes from the wonderfully named Q, the department responsible for Aston’s personalisation and limited edition vehicles. It is not to be confused with the MI6 branch responsible for fitting Bond’s vehicles with weapons. The limited edition Aston is of course finished in the same Silver Birch paint as James Bond’s DB5. It also features a new set of multi-spoke 21-inch wheels in a unique silver tone, and a unique Aston Martin logo in black enamel with gold side mouldings. In a move that would surely expose any MI6 spy’s cover behind enemy lines, the special DB12 features a shiny chrome ‘Q’ badge on its front wings. Inside, the car features Sports Plus seats upholstered in grooved, perforated black leather, like the seats in Bond’s DB5. These seats were first seen in the 1964 film Goldfinger. Aston says the perforations are “an intricate Prince of Wales checkered perforation pattern”, a subtle reference to the pattern of the suit Bond wore in the Sixties. The Goldfinger Edition also features 18K gold accents on the drive mode selector rotary dial and the roller controls used to adjust cabin temperature, fan speed and music volume. The gear selector is also finished in gold, with edges designed to resemble the tracking device Bond uses in Goldfinger. Gold metal fibres are also found in the texture of the car’s high-gloss carbon fibre details. Finally, the driver’s sun visor is embroidered with the eight of hearts symbol, a reference to the last card drawn in a poolside gambling game by Auric Goldfinger. The DB12 Goldfinger Edition, lovingly delivered from Gaydon, is limited to 60 units. Each comes with a special cover and luxury key presentation box, plus a SIlver Birch ‘speedform’ model, a limited edition magazine and a 35mm film clip from the Goldfinger car chase scene starring the DB5. The gifts will be presented to their owners in a Globe-Trotter briefcase, which reflects the design of the car thanks to its silver and Prince of Wales chequered interior. Finally, the second Globe-Trotter cabin cabinet contains a magnum of Bollinger champagne, each individually numbered from 2007, as well as four 007-branded Bollinger glasses. Aston Martin has not announced a price for the DB12 Goldfinger Edition and, sadly, there are no guns, rockets or rotating plates. Not even a bulletproof shield or ejection seat.
