The Witness Marks | "How it Goes" | Ear Bonez Sessions

Ear Bonez Sessions presents The Witness Marks performing their original song "How it Goes" at Ear Bonez Studio just outside of Athens, GA. The Witness Marks are back with a poignant new song, “How it Goes.” Written by songwriter Ethan Fogus, the song explores the human condition with honesty and emotional weight. Anchored by a haunting fiddle line and sparse piano accompaniment, “How it Goes” finds Fogus meditating on loss and grief. The song’s characters grapple with unsaid gestures; the letter you can't send, the little white lies you tell, the change of subject. Joined by Jenna Shea (Book Club) and Gus Fernandez (Jeremy Ray, Pony League) on violin and piano, respectively. Their minimalistic accompaniment allows Fogus' storytelling to take center stage, creating a lush narrative that feels much larger than the sum of its parts. Recorded live at Ear Bonez Studio in Athens, GA, the group’s raw performance complements Fogus’ honest observations on family, addiction, and overcoming difficult times. Says Fogus, “In 2019, I entered a difficult period in my life. Everything fell out of balance, and I lost touch with many people close to me. Many of those relationships aren't resolved still. Then the pandemic hit. It was a traumatic few years that were bookended by death. Only recently did I find I was able to start singing about it. “How it Goes” went through many drafts until I found one that hit somewhere in the sweet spot between Taylor Swift and Tom Waits. Plus, in the last few years, I’ve learned the fiddle and I found the allure of writing a waltz was undeniable. He laughs, “It’s a sad song, but the truth is I’m just a bit of a sad person.” Although this video is the band’s first public appearance in a while, Fogus has kept busy as an auxiliary musician, podcasting as The Sound Connector and acting in the movie The Neon Highway. Fogus will continue to release more songs in the near future. Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/24FkZu... Bandcamp: https://thewitnessmarks.bandcamp.com/...
