Alumiweld Rods Harbor Freight: No Skill Needed!

How To Use Aluminum Welding Rods. Aluminum welding rods like the Alumiweld Rods from Harbor Freight make welding aluminum without a welding machine not only possible, they make it affordable and the process is simple. There are plenty of times when a handyman needs to join two pieces of aluminum to make a repair or to fabricate something. These aluminum welding rods make it possible to to braze aluminum in the field, in the shop or on the job site. There are several brands of these aluminum welding rods out there but in this video I used the Alumiweld rods from Harbor Freight. The cost for these aluminum rods is under $20 which makes them super affordable. Welding aluminum with these rods is tricky! It takes some practice to be sure. I found that there are three key factors for success with brazing aluminum. The first is surface preparation. Sanding, wire brushing and a thorough cleaning with a solvent like acetone is a critical foundation to the process. The second key is stabilizing the piece to be welded. Clamping and immobilizing the aluminum that you are working on will assist in heat flexing. The third factor that I found was temperature. The Alumiweld rods have a working temperature of 730° which oddly enough is the same max temperature of MAP gas. The max temperature of propane is about 600°, so I chose to use MAP. I found that evenly heating the parent metal along the entire length of the weld worked best for me. I also notice more success when I didn't "rush" the temperature/process. My best welds occurred when I let the seam heat completely to the working temperature and maintained the temperature along the length of the weld until my pool was the size and shape that I wanted. Reheating and going back over the weld seems much less effective once the pool has hardened. getting the pool size and shape right the first time resulted in my best welds. 🙂Full disclosure here, I do receive a small commission from traffic that I drive to my affiliate links and As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. 🛒My Amazon Store ⤵️ https://www.amazon.com/shop/mrfredsdi... ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ —Merch—-Merch—-Merch—-Merch— Mr Fred’s Merch NOW AVAILABLE⤵️ https://mrfredsdiy.com ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Amazon Links ✅🎶Music: https://www.epidemicsound.com/referra... ✅Bernzotmatic Aluminum Welding Rods (If you don' have a HarborFreight near you) https://amzn.to/3FI8m8w ✅MAP Gas Kit: https://amzn.to/3BI2Uju ✅”Reader” Safety Glasses 👓 https://amzn.to/3sFLmCD 🔋⚡️EBL Rechargeable AAA Batteries Pack of 8 https://amzn.to/3oBYx4z 🔋⚡️EBL Rechargeable AA Batteries Pack of 8 https://amzn.to/3JbSWeZ ⛺️ Check out our Sister YouTube Channel for camping gear reviews & how-to’s⛺️ Brunt Boots Link⤵️ 🥾 🥾 Want to try Brunt work Boots with me? 🥾 🥾 Go to https://bruntworkwear.com/mrfreds10 and enter promo code mrfreds10 at checkout to get $10 off your purchase of $60 or more. --------------------------------------------- 🙏Help me fund future projects! $❤️$ Use the “Thanks” Button Above OR ☕️ https://www.buymeacoffee.com/mrfredsdiy ----------------------------------------------- Social Media 🔵 Join the Facebook conversation https://www.facebook.com/groups/mrfre... 🟣Follow me on Instagram:   / mrfredsdiy   ⚫️TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@mrfredsdiy?_t... 🧲Subscribe Today: https://youtube.com/c/MrFredsDIYGarag... ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 🎯 Goal Zero Products https://www.pjtra.com/t/TUJGRU1NSEJHS... 🏆Made in USA🇺🇸 Leatherman “Rev” Multitool (around $50)https://amzn.to/3wbO0St Leatherman https://www.pntrac.com/t/SENKTEdNT0pD...
