Looking to spend $70 to $80,000 on a family SUV or CUV? Well, Mercedes-Benz would like you to consider this, the 2021 GLE350 - but should you? Let's find out! Styling: Let's begin with the looks, which, let's face it, aren't exactly exciting! Mercedes-Benz has lots of stunning looking vehicles in their portfolio - but sadly, this isn't one of them! The belt line is too high, and the styling looks very uninspiring - surely Mercedes designers can do better! Score: 3/10. Interior: Thankfully, things get a lot better when you step inside! Just check out its dual screen display for your instrumentation and infotainment - this really is among the best in the business. The infotainment screen is controlled by a touch-pad, which is not the most intuitive, and takes a lot of getting used to... however, there is another way to control it! Just say "Hey Mercedes" and ask the car to do what you want! This is pretty cool! Also impressive is the build quality and the materials used for the interior. The combination of wood, leather and chrome is just spectacular. The GLE also scores big on cabin and cargo room, so if you like space, you'll love the GLE-class. Score: 9/10. Safety: Mercedes-Benz makes some of the safest cars in the world, and this is no exception... the GLE scores the "Top Safety Pick+" rating from the IIHS -- that is as good as it gets! Score: 9/10. Powertrain: Powering this 2,140 kg vehicle is a modest 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that is also turbocharged. It produces 255 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Power is fed to all wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Score: 3/10. Performance: Performance, as you'd expect with such a drivetrain, is not great! The sprint from 0-100 km/h takes 7.1 seconds -- that isn't great in this class or price range of vehicle. Score: 3/10. Driving Dynamics: The Mercedes-Benz GLE350 is not a sharp device! It won't attack corners, and neither is the ride as smooth as you'd expect on imperfect roads. But, the cabin is well-insulated, so if you travel a lot on highways, you'll appreciate its refinement - although, it might also bore you! Score: 4/10. Let's Talk Fuel Economy: This is where the GLE 350 with its four-pot motor shines! We averaged 10.5L/100 km, which is great for a vehicle of this size and weight, that is also not a hybrid! Score: 7/10. Price: Prices for the GLE350 in Canada start at $69,900 and our tester was listed at $79,000. Score: 3/10. Verdict: The Mercedes-Benz GLE350 is very safe, very well made, and very well equipped. It is also quiet and comfortable on long drives (as long as you don't have serious back issues!), heck, it even has kinetic seats to aid fatigue. However, it is not the most exciting vehicle you can buy for this kind of money, but that won't matter to some! Total score: 41/80.
