Apr. 19, 2023 After a tumultuous 2022 and talk of an economic slowdown in 2023, Americans will have to navigate significant economic uncertainty in the coming year. At this Texas Business Hall of Fame Titan Talk, in partnership with the Baker Institute, Richard Fisher, the former president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, explored the challenges and opportunities facing the United States economy. As one of the most respected economic minds in the country, Fisher discussed a wide variety of economic issues — from the prospects for American economic growth to the impact of recent economic, demographic, social and political trends on the U.S. economy. Featured Speaker Richard W. Fisher is a senior advisor to Barclays PLC. Currently Fisher serves on the boards of directors of Warner Brothers Discovery and Tenet Healthcare. Previously he served on the boards of ATT, PepsiCo, EDS, and Stolt Nielsen. He is also the senior contributing editor for CNBC. From 2005 to 2015, Fisher was president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. In this role, Fisher served as a member of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), the Federal Reserve’s principal monetary policymaking group. He also served as the chair of the Conference of Federal Reserve Bank Presidents, the body that oversees the shared operations of the 12 Federal Reserve banks. For five years he served as chair of the IT Oversight Committee for the 12 Federal Reserve banks, putting in place the first system-wide CIO structure. From 1997 to 2001, he was deputy U.S. trade representative with the rank of ambassador. Fisher was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame in 2019. Fisher attended the U.S. Naval Academy from 1967 to 1969, graduated with honors from Harvard University with a degree in economics in 1971, studied Latin American politics at Oxford from 1972 to 1973, and received a master’s degree in business administration from Stanford University in 1975.
