Art, Practice and Personal Myth

In ancient India, Shiva was both the arch-yogi of the gods and the master of the dance. Shiva inspires the great dance of life and is also the ascetic who meditates on the void and renounces the world and all its illusions. These paths were also seen as the two motions of the cosmic two-step, the dance of life and of death. They were also known as the two movements of the breath of life, the great Yea and the great Nay of existence. In the excerpt from his ongoing live series "Personal Myth, Cultural Change", Michael Meade considers how creative arts offer ways of engaging the world, but also add to the pulse of ongoing creation; while yoga and meditation enact a withdrawal from the entanglements of the daily world. Thus, expressive arts and meditative practices can flourish side by side. Each path offers a way of transcendence and, like Shiva, some people travel both. In having a practice we can become more present and reconciled in ourselves and in our lives. We gain an emotional seating, a place to dwell, a refuge to return to again and again. In the old way of knowing, it was not a matter of “practice make’s perfect.” Rather, a practice involves us in essential work that can never be completed; yet can somehow be both centering and fulfilling. ------------------------------------- "Personal Myth, Cultural Change Online Events: Series: April 2 & 9 - Registration: $35 (for 2 evening events) Workshop: April 17 - Registration: $50 (half-day event) All registrations include access to live events and HD recordings available the day after each live session INFO + REGISTRATION: mosaicvoices.org/events #myth #LivingMyth #michaelmeade #art Michael Meade, D.H.L., is a renowned storyteller, author, and scholar of mythology, anthropology, and psychology.
