The collection primarily originated from the Swiss-born collector Roberto Bassi Rathgeb, who bequeathed it to the town of Abano Terme in 1972. The villa itself has been beautifully restored, and its rooms are adorned with frescoes depicting classical myths, biblical scenes, and allegorical themes, such as the myth of Scylla, and the story of Apollo and Daphne. Notably, the museum showcases works by prominent artists like Tiepolo, Moretto da Brescia, and Giovan Battista Moroni. The museum also features interactive and multimedia elements that bring the historical artworks to life, making it a significant cultural center for the region. One of the most interesting aspects of the villa is its oratory, which is a replica of the Holy House of Loreto and features sacred frescoes that are illuminated annually on December 10, marking the feast of the translation of the Holy House.
