Prominent political theorist and scholar of multiculturalism and secularism in non-western societies, Rajeev Bhargava, in his new book, Reimagining Indian Secularism (History for Peace) interrogates the abuse and the deliberate distortion of Indian secularism by its opponents. His earlier collection of essays, Between Hope and Despair, explored the idea of an inclusive, pluralist India, raising pertinent questions on India’s collective ethical identity. Noted political economist and social commentator Parakala Prabhakar’s recently published The Crooked Timber of New India: Essays on a Republic in Crisis investigates the idea of ‘New India’ against the backdrop of rising religious majoritarianism and authoritarianism. Together, they will be in conversation with Mohit Satyanand. Rajeev Bhargava is Honorary Fellow, CSDS, Delhi and Balliol College, Oxford. He has been a Visiting Professor at Harvard, Stanford, NYU, Jerusalem, Berlin, Vienna, Paris, Sydney and Beijing. His publications include The Promise of India’s Secular Democracy, Between Hope and Despair and Reimagining Indian Secularism. Mohit Satyanand is an entrepreneur and investor and has been instrumental in establishing businesses that produce packaged foods, promote the arts and teach languages. He is currently the Chairperson of Teamwork Arts and also serves on the boards of several other companies, both public and private. Satyanand is an active angel investor and mentors a wide range of start-ups.
