A nice glitch gave me Danse as a companion before Shadow of Steel. Here's what he has to say about the Prydwen arriving. Edit for the new people showing up in 2022: This happened a looooong time ago in probably one of the earlier versions of the game which has since been patched out (I've tried). If you'd start a conversation with Danse during the ArcJet quest, you'd be given the option to recruit him, effectively giving you an early-game walking tank companion. No mods or console commands were used to do this.
