Modding & Rebuilding 1997 Polaris XC 600 with David Fischer - Tri 5 Sled Build Episode 4

With Levi LaVallee's Tri 5 just two weekends away, Ryan is racing to get our 1997 Polaris XC 600 sled ready to rock and roll. Our classic Indy was still sporting its original OEM metal snowmobile skis that came stock on sleds back in the day. It took a ton of WD-40 and lots of muscle to extricate the rusted on, seized up metal snowmobile skis that have probably not been removed since the manufacturer installed them nearly 30 years ago. We swapped out the relic metal snowmobile skis with a smoking hot pair of custom C&A Pro Razors that Nick made in our Hutchinson, Minnesota, compression molding shop. These babies look straight out of the 90s with a white base and sky blue, purple and black inlays. They are sweet! We set them up with 6" Stud Boy Shaper Bar carbides that feature a concave edge for precise turning. Check them out at https://www.caproskis.net/product/6-s.... C&A Pro snowmobile skis are easy to install. They bolt right on using a mounting kit specific to your sled. One tip is to put the rubber dampener in a cup of hot water to make it more pliable. With the skis on and stance adjusted, Ryan trailers the Indy down to South St. Paul, Minnesota, to meet up with our Tri 5 team member Team Polaris Athlete David Fischer and his dad, Sled Head 24/7's Jeff Fischer. David and Jeff have big plans for our old triple, involving the shocks, clutching, exhaust and much more. With their help, we're going to put on a heckuva show at the Levi Tri 5 April 15 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, MN. We strip everything off the engine and give it a good degreasing before David removes the skid to assess the sled's vintage Fox shocks. They are in need of some love. Jeff shows us how to rebuild old snowmobile shocks. Fortunately, they are salvageable. There's some rust pitting, but it is under the bump stop and there's actually still some nitrogen in them. He cleans them up, changes the oil and the valve stacks. He replaces the failed O ring on the floating piston that is supposed to separate the nitrogen from the oil. He also lubes the threads and cleans up the spring adjustment. He changes the compression and rebound dampening to get us set for the Tri 5 snocross race. Next up we removed the exhaust and hood, and will check the chain case. Stay tuned for our next video! We'll be heading back to the Fischer's shop to install new pipes and improve the clutching.
