Abandoned railroad to be restored? - Fall River, MA

Interactive Map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edi... About a decade ago the 2 1/2 miles section of track on the Fall River secondary from Ferry St. station site (end of active track) to the Rhode Island border was proposed to be reopened. This was backed by the Gold Medal Bakery who wanted direct service to their location on Bay St. in Fall River, MA. Until then, a “temporary” agreement for transporting flour and wheat shipments at the Fall River State Pier was put in place and continues to this day (4/2022). Other companies along the rail line of expressed interest in using the track if restored. This include the Saltine Warrior company who would ship road salt from Fall River to other points like Cape Cod, MA. Another customer, the Fall River waste water treatment plant, expressed interest in moving sewage sludge out by rail. This would mean three customers would be using the restored 2 1/2 mile of track if this project ever gets going. This video explores the line from south to north starting at the MA/RI border and ending at Ferry St. in Fall River. Along the way we see the potential customers and locations as well as a segment on the current transload operations of Gold Medal Bakery. Also of note is the unused spur track into the gas company who has not publicly expressed interest in rail. The line is not actually abandoned, rather listed as out of service. The last train on these tracks was around 1987 or so. Be sure to check out the interactive map. Filmed 2/2022 Fall River, MA Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/1404502... Comments? Questions?
