Stolen Car and Identity Theft Bust at Atlanta Hotel

#CrimeCamNow On March 20, 2023. Chamblee police officer located a stolen rental car in the parking lot of the Quality Inn Hotel in Atlanta, Ga. They asked the front desk who it belonged to. The employee at the front desk checked the surveillance footage and told the officer that the car belonged to a couple that had checked in recently and were staying in room 143. He called for backup. Officers proceeded to knock on the door and were met by a topless woman who said she needed a moment to get dressed. When asked if anyone else was in the room, she claimed to be alone. An officer entered the room, a man emerged from the bathroom with his hands up, pleading with the officer not to shoot. Both suspects were detained and placed in handcuffs for further investigation. The male suspect told officer that the car belonged to his baby mama, who had given it to him to drive. According to him, she had reported the car stolen out of jealousy when she found out he had left her for another woman. While searching the room and the car, officers found a stash of fake IDs, bank checkbooks with different names, and two firearms. It was then that officer learned that the male suspect was a career criminal with a long list of arrests and outstanding warrants from three different police agencies. The suspects were arrested and transported to Dekalb County jail. The female suspect was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, theft by receiving stolen property, criminal use of an article with an altered ID mark, financial transaction card theft, and identity fraud using identifying information of another. The male suspect was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, criminal trespass, theft by taking, financial transaction card theft, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and financial transaction card theft.
