Wildlife Gardening: Myths and Opportunities

How important are residential gardens for biodiversity conservation? Do gardens have to be “wildlife-friendly” to support biodiversity? Mark will discuss findings from his own research and that of others to synthesise the evidence about the value of biodiversity-friendly garden management for wildlife and people. Dr Mark Goddard is an Assistant Professor at Northumbria University, Newcastle. He is an urban ecologist working on biodiversity conservation and the provision of ecosystem services in cities. Mark has a particular interest in insect pollinators and private gardens, as well as the social factors affecting biodiversity management in cities.
