This video tutorial explains the concept of BCD numbers in PIC18F microcontrollers. There are two types which are used in Microcontroller or microprocessor . Unpacked BCD in which upper nibble (4 most significant bits) are zero and only least four significant bit (Lower Nibble) are used. Second type of BCD is Packed BCD. This type utilizes all the 8-bits and two BCD numbers are used. That's why Packed BCD is more efficient compare to Unpacked BCD. BCD numbers are added using hexa decimal number if sum exceeds the 9 then it appears the invalid BCD result because hexa decimal number binary system is used. then this invalid BCD is made valid by addition of 6. This correction of BCD sum is automated using DAW Instruction.DAW performs decimal adjustment in working register. One limitation of DAW instruction , it is used only with working register. ..............................................................................
