I have been waiting to complete my parkrun alphabet for a VERY long time! I was originally waiting for a friend to complete with me but they've stopped parkrun touring, so it was time to set out to find a parkrun beginning with Q! I chose Queen's parkrun, Glasgow as it was close to some pretty cool things I've been wanting to check out: The Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel! I love combining points of interest with parkrun tourism. I'll never be someone who goes to a place to tick off a parkrun and dashes off again. It feels like a wasted journey. I headed up to Glasgow and made the mistake of having more than a few drinks on parkrun eve! That meant that heading to Queen's parkrun I wasn't feeling very confident about coping well with the hills. I'd heard that each lap has three hills, and the parkrun is a three lapper... So nine hills! And while it was a very hilly parkrun I surprised myself by absolutely loving it! The laps flew by and at the top of each hill there was a flat or downhill section. It didn't feel like the hills went on forever, plus there was some decent downhill and gorgeous panoramic views of Glasgow. The café in the church was really cute, just £1 for a drink and snack and there were lots of parkrun tourists to chat to. In short... I absolutely loved this parkrun! I was then blown away by both the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel so I would definitely recommend a visit to both of these really cool places. Huge thanks to the team at Queen's parkrun, Glasgow for being such fantastic hosts. As you can imagine, they get a lot of parkrun tourists looking for a Q as it is a rare letter in parkrunworld. I am very grateful for the warm welcome we received.
