How tilting trains work? Pendolino | Tilting trains | Class 390 | Avanti | Super Voyager | Class 221

A tilting train is a train that has a tilt-mechanism that enables increased speed on regular rail tracks. When a train or any other vehicle rounds a curve at speed, objects inside the vehicle experience centrifugal force that can cause objects to slide about, standing passengers to lose their balance and seated passengers to feel squashed by armrests. Tilting trains counteract this by tilting towards the inside of the bend and compensate for the g-force. The train may have a passive tilt where inertial forces cause the tilt or it may have a active tilt where onboard computers actively control electric or hydraulic tilt-actuating mechanisms. In this video, using the Class 390 Pendolino as a demonstrating example, I explain the active tilting in trains.
