A video of a mixed or Car Goods consist from the period prior to 1955 running on the Colac - Crowes narrow gauge line, (in On30). By 1955 three of the four VR NG lines had been closed and the Colac line was truncated to Weeaproinah. Cattle cars were scrapped or sold off and passenger traffic was discontinued. (At this time the Upper Fern Tree Gully to Gembrook line was being kept alive by volunteers running tourist specials on a shortened section to Belgrave. In 1958 the section from UFTG to Belgrave was converted to broad gauge and electrified as an extension of the suburban service. In 1962 the Puffing Billy Preservation Society took over the remaining railway and rolling stock and eventually reopened the line from Belgrave to Gembrook. It is the second oldest preservation society in the world.) The Colac - Beech Forest - Weeaproinah line struggled on until final closure on 30th June, 1962. Most of the useful rolling stock went to Puffing Billy.
