SOUL COUGHING - LIVE IN MINNEAPOLIS, MN: 25 JULY 1997

I was going to upload this on the 25th, to make it 20 years to the day, but hey, you guys have waited 20 years, that's long enough, right? 5 days won't do too much. Besides, my birthday is on the 22nd, (of 1997.... I was 3 days old when this video was recorded!). I received this in a trade from the wizard himself, Luke Freteluco of Las Vegas. He did the lords work and sent me these along with some other goodies, coming soon. Anyway, some more info on the show: This was at First Avenue in MPLS, MN. Soul Coughing's best audience, according to Doughty himself, was in the twin cities. He claims 1 of every 7 Soul Coughing albums was purchased in Minnesota. The band and audience alike are mourning the loss of KREV 105.3 "Revolution Radio", a radio station in Lakewood, MN that played post-grunge music, keeping the likes of Buffalo Daughter, Soul Coughing, CIbo Matto, Morphine, etc. in constant rotation. KREV was bought out by some big corporate conglomerate company that made it overnight with no announcement into pop music. Doughty had a personal stake in the station, he was a recurring guest on Moonlight Meditations, a program on the show. Can't remember for the life of me who hosted it, some girl. I listened to taped broadcasts, it was quite the time to be alive. The band was so tight, and you really can tell they fed off the energy of the vivacious sold-out house. They felt comfortable playing some rarer songs, like dusting off Buddha Rhubarb Butter and debuting some new ones that'd later appear on El Oso, like I Miss The Girl, Science, etc. Also, super rarity: SC doing Mike Doughty's "Thank You Lord For Sending Me The F Train", which later appeared on Doughty's 2000 solo debut, Skittish.
