Class of 2021, welcome to Stellenbosch University!

“Our newcomer first-years are staking their claim as pioneers of the new era we have entered. The world has changed, and our students have shown that they can not only adapt, but flourish in the face of uncertainty,” Stellenbosch University Rector and Vice-Chancellor Prof Wim de Villiers says in his welcoming address recorded at the iconic Danie Craven stadium, recorded against the backdrop of flags planted by members of the Class of 2021 at the start of their academic journey. Also delivering a welcoming address is SRC Chair Xola Njengele: “Considering the roller-coaster of a year 2020 was, we may all have differing reasons of wanting to start off a clean slate, and today I am here to remind you to take up that opportunity. Use this new chapter of your life to take charge of your story and make it yours.” The video concludes with contributions by a number of Maties alumni who have gone on to make their mark in the world.
