East Midlands Railway Trains at Loughborough on March 5th 2022

2nd visit to Loughborough station on the Midland Mainline featuring services by East Midlands Railway including stopping and passing services and a few unexpected surprises. The original Loughborough station opened in 1840 by the Midland Counties Railway was located slightly to the south. The present station dates from 1872 with the ironwork of the station constructed by Mr. Richard of Leicester whilst the stone portion was built by Mr. Cox of Leicester. At the same time the track was quadrupled although today it only has 3 platforms with Platforms 1 and 2 using by Stopping Nottingham and Sheffield services which alternate with passing services whilst Platform 3 dates from 1993 when services on the Ivanhoe Line commenced which nowadays now used by hourly services to and from Leicester to Lincoln Central, Grimsby Town and Cleethorpes respectively in either 2 car Class 156 Sprinters or recently Class 170 Turbostars. Not far from the station Is the preserved section of the GCR Grand Central Railway which runs from Loughborough Central to Leicester North.
