Wallago attu(Sareng) earlier abundantly found in fresh water bodies , is a nearly extinct fish species in Manipur which the locals relish due to its extraordinary taste and health benefit . And this fish is very important in various meitei ritual and religious activities. The programme of artificially induced breeding of sareng is under the PROJECT SARENG which is an initiative taken by honourable CM N.Biren Singh.
