Title: ছাতার সৌন্দর্যে ধলাগলা ছাতিঘুরুনি | White-throated Fantail The chirping of birds fills the nature of Bengal. The presence of diverse birds enriches nature. Some birds fill the air with beautiful songs, while others captivate with their beauty. Their tail movements are mesmerizing. One such bird is the White-throated Fantail. The tail movement of this bird is a sight to behold. It can dance beautifully by fanning out its tail. Bird lovers must pay close attention to see this dance because these birds are very fickle. Their unique feature is their ability to swiftly fly from one place to another and feed on tiny insects. During hunting, they spread and retract their tail like an umbrella to maintain balance. Which enhances their feathered beauty. The 12 neatly arranged feathers add to its beauty. Because of its umbrella-like beauty, it is named "Chhati Ghurni" locally. Other Bengali names include "Sadagola Lejnachani" or "Chakdoel." Also, they can whistle and sing beautifully. It is commonly known as White-throated Fantail. The scientific name of this bird is Rhipidura albicollis. This small bird is a species of small bird belonging to the Rhipidura genus of Rhipiduridae family. They are slightly larger than sparrows. It is about 19 cm in length. It weighs about 11 grams. There is no difference in size or appearance of male and female birds. Adult birds have a white chin and throat. The rest of the body is gray. The wings, crown of the head, back of the neck, and shoulders are gray. The tail is blackish in color. When the tail is spread, the tip feathers appear white. The eyes are brown. The legs, feet, and claws are amber-brown. The White-throated Fantail has 9 subspecies. Only 2 species can be found in Bangladesh. This bird can be seen in the forests, shaded bushes, and gardens throughout the country. It constantly moves its body while foraging for food. It mainly feeds on tiny insects. It also feeds on different species of tiny insects, bees, moths, etc. The breeding season is in August. During this time, the bird builds a cup-shaped nest using grass, jute fibers, and dry grass. Only the female bird builds the nest. After the nest is built, she lays 3 eggs. The eggs are white with a ring of brown speckles in the middle. Both parents take responsibility for feeding the chicks. These birds help our environment and crop production by feeding on various harmful insects. Therefore, we must protect this beautiful bird to sustain it in nature.
