Member Lean-In: Embodied Carbon - Developments & Resources

To meet the critical challenge for a zero-carbon economy, it is increasingly accepted that the target for a zero-carbon construction industry must be 2030. Given a great number of buildings can take upwards of five years from inception to completion, this means we must all be ready to design to zero carbon parameters by 2025 which will take an unprecedented re-engineering of our profession. This lean-in session takes attendees another step, advancing our understanding of the available resources to enable architects to minimize carbon expenditure in our designs. Speakers: Philip Oldfield Head of School, UNSW Built Environment, and co-author of the Acumen practice note on Embodied Carbon in Buildings, and Delivering on the Climate Emergency: Towards a Net Zero Carbon Built Environment Ross Donaldson Member of the Institute's Climate Action and Sustainability Task Force (CAST). Alison Potter (host) Sustainability Lead for Grimshaw’s Melbourne studio, member of the Australian Institute of Architects’ Climate Action and Sustainability Taskforces and member of the Office for Design and Architecture South Australia Design Review Panel.
