Set to arrive in September, ‘We Are Le Turfu’ is the debut collaborative effort by creatively curious French producers REMAIN & daWad. REMAIN is a well-known Rex Club resident, founder of Meant Records, and has a plethora of releases on labels including Throne of Blood, Darkroom Dubs, and Death On Wax. He is a man of many simultaneous projects, namely Danse Alice, which has previously released on Lumière Noire. daWad has co-managed the IRM label which released Traumer’s first records, who came from a musical family with his pianist mother and his grandfather an organist and harmonizer for a church in Provence. With releases on KNTRL, La Dame Noir Records, Beachcoma and more, this new project marks his debut on Lumière Noire. Their duo alias known as ‘We Are Le Turfu’ was coined one night, playing records back-to- back, dancefloor receptive, captive, grooving, and bursting at the seams. With decades of experience under their belts, this three-track EP is the first studio effort of the combo and flawlessly embodies the delightfully dark, cybernetic electronica CHLOÉ’s avant-garde label and club night is renowned for. Opening track ‘Shame Shell’ see’s REMAIN & daWad enlisting a harsh, wintery mix of melodics to clash menacingly with the track’s probing bassline. Whilst somewhat sparse in parts, these producers have curated a deeply atmospheric and mesmerising composition, employing spidery synth patterns alongside mechanised percussion to produce a gloomy, sub-aquatic soundscape. ‘Still Care’ weaves sinister electronic measures with cutting EBM-like motifs. The track’s abrasive inception, which features a coarse cluster of murmuring overtones and hypnotic drum rolls, methodically grows in stature and before-long bursts at the track’s mid-point to make way for glacial strings which adds an icy ambience to this dark, cosmic roller. A special remix on this release comes from Charlotte Bendiks, an artist from Norway who focuses on alluring dance and body music. Although her main genre is classic house, her sets are inspired and influenced by music ranging from disco to African groove and Latin beats. Her live vocals and percussion, as well as integrating other musicians has become somewhat of a trademark. Her remix for ‘Still Care’ takes the original into a more downtempo, trippy edit. The first single ‘Same Shell’ will be released on the 13th September and ‘We Are Le Turfu’ EP will be available from 4th October on Lumière Noire Records.
