Beatles "Something" RARE rehearsal 1969 GEORGE HARRISON DEMO (John Lennon indifferent)

George Harrison basically teaches the song to the others during this early take. The Beatles do a trial run of "Something," experimenting with harmonies. Paul McCartney can be heard singing along, making an effort to find ways to contribute to a polished performance. In 1969 and in earlier years Paul worked hard when George's song were tackled. This is in contrast to John. John Lennon plays a guitar here, but by 1969 John made no special effort when George Harrison tried to get others interested in Harrison compositions. Such apathy in 1968 motivated George to invite Eric Clapton to the studio in 1968. John did not really view Harrison as an equal--a shame. By 1969, John seemed to view Yoko's input as more important to the Beatles than George's. This contributed to the breakup. John had been indifferent about George Harrison songs for a few years (since 1966?)--ok, George is slightly to blame in 1967 and 1968 since George used up a lot of good will by bringing in weak songs such as "Only A Northern Song" and "Not Guilty." In 1969 John was so indifferent when George introduced "I, Me, Mine" that John is absent on that tract. But George brought two outstanding compositions to the Abbey Road sessions in 1969. John added nothing essential to the two songs--well, maybe another guitarist was not needed. (Did John see that these were gems at the time "Something" and the sun song were recorded?) For whatever reason, John only went through the motions in the studio when George Harrison pushed his own songs in the late phrase of the Beatles, from 1967 to the end. John Lennon is at this early session since the tape has some conversation that includes John. But is John Lennon present on the final take issued on the LP? Maybe that's John's voice during moments of harmony--"And all I have to do is think of her." But John is not prominent on "Something" whereas Paul's bass playing is brilliant and Ringo's drums are crucial. John Lennon was often absent when George Harrison wanted to record songs in 1968 and 1969. John didn't care about George's songs, and John said in an interview that George made John nervous by asking for help on "Taxman"--John basically recalled being annoyed that John had to help on Paul's songs already, and now George was asking for John's help on songs. "Taxman" was composed in 1966. George must have picked up the message that John was not eager to help. Where is John on "Long, Long, Long"? Where is John on "Here Comes The Sun"? On the other hand, John had enough respect for Paul in these years to contribute to Paul's songs. John did view Paul as an equal--after all, Paul was responsible for a string of number one hits.
