Serving as a source of comfort from the sultry dessert climate of Rajasthan, Mount Abu, the state’s only hill station stands at a height of 1722 metres above sea level, and is embraced by lush green hills of the Aravalli range. Other than its scenic beauty, Mount Abu is also popular as a seat of religious importance for Jains. The structural architectural wonders in Mount Abu, among other places to visit, have been drawing history buffs and architecture enthusiasts from different corners of the world. All most all tour packages, including those by Rajasthan Tourism have Mount Abu as one of the most significant destinations to be covered. A little into the background Myths and Legends - The history of Mount Abu can be traced back to the Puranas. Known as “Arbudaranya” or “the forest of Arbhuda” in the Puranic Age, Mount Abu is described to have served as a retreat for Sage Vashistha, following his spur with Sage Vishwamitra. A popular mythology story associated with Mount Abu mentions a serpent named Arbhuda, who had saved the life of Nandi, Lord Shiva’s mount, here. The name “Mount Abu” is a diminutive of its original name which was kept after Arbhuda. Another legend suggests that Sage Vashistha had performed a yajna at the peak of this very mountain range, seeking provision for the defence of righteousness on earth, from the Gods. His prayer was answered by a youth who sprang out of the yajna fire, known to be the first of the Agnivamsha Rajputs. TOP VISITING PLACES OF MOUNT ABU:- 1. Nakki Lake If you are looking for Mount Abu places to visit, Nakki Lake is a local recommendation. It is a beautiful artificial lake surrounded by hills. You can enjoy boating through the lake and expect beautiful sunset views. You can also take a stroll along the shore in the evenings. You can reach Nakki lake between 9:30 AM and 6:00 PM every day with no entry fees required. 2. Toad Rock A nearby spot to go to after your visit to Nakki Lake is Toad Rock.The altitude makes the rock a vantage point that makes Toad Rock one of the most popular Mount Abu tourist places. You can reach Toad Rock between 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM every day without any entry fee. 3. Guru Shikhar The highest point of not only the town but all of the Aravali range, the Guru Shikhar point is at an altitude of about 1720 km above sea level. To get to the point, you can trek up a trail. From here, you can enjoy a scenic view of the whole town and of the surrounding mountain range making this experience one of the most popular things to do in Mount Abu. Located at a distance of 9 KM by road from the main city, you can reach Guru Shikhar between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM any day of the week. 4. Shri Raghunath Temple If you are visiting Nakki Lake, you can visit the nearby Shri Raghunath Temple. The locals of Mount Abu hold religious belief in Lord Raghunath to whom the temple is devoted. You can explore the religious and cultural history of Mount Abu. you can reach Shri Raghunath Temple all days of the week between 5:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. 5. Sunset Point You can enjoy a beautiful sunset every day at the sunset point in Mount Abu. Since the climate in Mount Abu is almost always pleasant, you can enjoy sunsets and a beautiful view of the sky any day you want and enjoy moments of peace. You can visit Sunset Point between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM every day. 6. Dilwara Temples Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, the Dilwara Jain Temples, made of intricately designed marble, is one of the most popular Mount Abu visiting places. The beautifully designed architecture of the temple makes it a major attraction to tourists. For Jains, the time to visit Dilwara temple is between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM and for Non-Jains, it is 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM. 7. Arbuda Devi Temple To reach the temple, devotees climb many stairs to get to the temple dedicated to Goddess Durga. Since the temple is located at the peak of Aravalli Hills, you can also enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding hills and the forest while visiting which makes Arbuda Devi Temple a must-visit place in mount abu. You can pay a visit to the temple between 5:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM any day of the week. 8. Trevors Tank Another fascinating wildlife sanctuary, Trevors Tank doubles as a man-made crocodile breeding lake. You can take the jungle safari to a certain point on the premises from where you can further explore the forest and the crocodile pond on foot. The tank is located 3 km away from the city centre and can be visited between 6 AM – 6 PM any day of the week. The entry fee is Rs 50 per person.
