This Super Rare 1947 Pickup Truck! Almost Nobody Knows!

This Super Rare 1947 Pickup Truck! Almost Nobody Knows! This 1947 model showcased Hudson's expertise in design and engineering. The main idea behind the Big Boy was to provide the market with a vehicle that combined the strong functionality of a pickup with the visual appeal and comfort features of a sedan. To achieve this, Hudson incorporated design elements and luxurious amenities from their successful passenger cars, especially the Hudson Commodore, into the Big Boy. What set the 1947 model and other Hudson pickups of this period apart was their car-like handling and comfort, which was unusual for trucks at the time. The pickups boasted stylish design features such as a sleek, low profile and a refined interior that included amenities like a Zenith radio, an advanced heating system, and a well-designed dashboard – features that were typically only found in luxury cars. In addition to its style and comfort, the Big Boy was constructed on a robust, three-quarter ton chassis, enabling it to carry heavier loads and making it both practical and fashionable. It also featured Hudson's "Auto-Poise Front Wheel Suspension," which offered superior handling and a smoother ride compared to the solid-axle designs common in other trucks of the era. When it came to the engine and performance, the 1947 Hudson Big Boy was powered by a 212 cubic inch flathead straight-six engine, known for its strength and dependability. This engine generated around 102 horsepower, which was impressive for the time, particularly in a pickup truck. The engine's design was simple but efficient, common among American trucks of the period, and it delivered ample power for both everyday driving and more demanding tasks. Despite the Big Boy's innovative features, it received a lukewarm reception in terms of sales. This was largely due to its upscale positioning, which didn't align well with the broader market that typically preferred more utilitarian vehicles. Production numbers were relatively low, reflecting its niche appeal compared to mainstream trucks of the era. This limited production also contributes to the rarity and collectibility of these trucks today. The Hudson Big Boy's legacy in the automotive world is more about its role in promoting the idea of combining passenger car comfort with the utility of a truck, which was a precursor to the modern luxury pickup. While it didn't have a significant impact on the immediate designs of trucks that followed in the late 1940s and 1950s, its approach anticipated a future where trucks would not only be utilitarian but could also provide comfort and style. ____ We do not own the footages/images compiled in this video.
