Apan O

This song originates from a melody and narrative recounting a legendary tale in the Enga Province of Papua New Guinea. It unfolds the story of a forsaken boy, abandoned and disowned by his father, condemned to a watery demise until the intervention of an eagle. Miraculously saved by the eagle, the boy is nurtured and raised as the eagle's own, blossoming into a handsome young man under the bird's watchful care. As the village immersed itself in a grand celebration of song and dance, the eagle adorned the boy in a garment crafted from its feathers. Instructed by the eagle, the boy mastered distinct and unparalleled melodies, setting him apart from the traditional tunes known to the community. The sight of the boy clad in eagle feathers during the festivities was mesmerizing – a moment when all activity in the village paused. Spectators gazed in awe and trepidation, questioning his identity and lineage. His resplendent attire seized everyone's attention, prompting inquiries about his parentage. In a poignant performance, the boy sang the melody imparted by the eagle, proclaiming, "My father abandoned me to perish in the river, yet the eagle soaring above the sky rescued me from drowning. He embraced me as his own, fostering me as his son. Now, I am the son of the eagle, and this is my song." Spiritually resonant, this narrative draws parallels to the concept of the eagle of Zion, symbolizing Christ, who adopts us as His own. He clothes us in the robe of righteousness, bestowing us a new heritage and identity. Much like the boy in the legend, we are given a unique song, echoing the sentiment of Psalm 40:2, "He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings." This song becomes our anthem, declaring, "Aba Father, Apan O, we are your children, and you are our God."
