Karussell … Willi Stanke mit seinem Orchester (Berlin,1943) (4K / Colorized)

Today's video features "Karussell" which was composed by Michael Jary for the 1943 musical "Karneval der Liebe" (Lit. "Carnival of Love). I initally posted this record by Willi Stanke and his orchestra nearly 13 years ago so it was time for an update... Willi Stanke (1907-82) created his own band in 1935 and started recording in 1939. He is best known for the recordings he made at Columbia in 1942/43 - especially "Schwarzer Panter / Tiger Rag". "Karneval der Liebe" starred Johannes Heesters, Dora Komar, Dorit Kreysler and Hans Moser... Evelyn Künneke was featured as a singer and dancer in 2 musical sequences : "Das Karussell" and the finale. The movie is known for its "hot music" and elaborate musical sequences. Other songs from the movie are : "1,2,3 (Hokus Pokus)", "Junger Mann / Haben Sie schon mal im Dunkeln geküsst?" and "Durch dich wird diese Welt erst schön". This video combines the original 78rpm release with sequences from the movie. These sequences have been restored and upscaled to a 4K resolution. They were then colorized purely for entertainment purposes. The restoration software used for the video is Topaz Video Enhance (Denoising, stabilization and upscaling) and Adobe Premiere Pro (Ligthing, level adjustments etc). The colorization process was done using Adobe Photoshop. In my opinion the colorization process in Adobe is superior when compared to other AI colorization technology such as DeOldify or Pixbim. Further editing was then done in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Lightroom. I do not claim the colorization to be historically correct but it does give an impression of what the sets and costumes may have looked like and brings the musical numbers to life as it were. About the record : "Karussell " Willi Stanke mit seinem Orchester Columbia DW-4928 / mx. CR 756-2 Berlin, July 1943 Post-War pressing. The 78rpm recording was transferred using the Graham Slee Revelation M phono preamp in combination with the ReK-O-Kut Dehisser. The settings for the Preamp are : Mono / 250 Hz (Bass Turnover) - O (Roll-Off)
