"'I'm alive,' he shouted, as loud as he could. But he was so small, and the boat was already drifting back to the harbour." - Six of Crows, Leigh Bardugo. When I found this song years ago and I had known they were adapting the Grishaverse, I knew that I was going to edit this song to Kaz, and I held onto it. The abrupt, crooked chaos at the start of the song, and how it matches the gruesome myth Kaz had built for himself, layered with ruthlessness and violence. And then it all comes to a stop, then repeats over and over "Wake me up, I'm still alive." It reminded me of a few lines in the book that I quoted above. Freddy mentioned in an interview that what Kaz wants is a family. It's something he seeks, aside from destroying Pekka Rollins as an act of vengeance. But the way he seeks it is all in the wrong ways. It's implied in Rule of Wolves that Kaz still tries to pull Jesper into illegal jobs. Kaz isn't someone to admit that he wants the crows around because he misses them, but he'd definitely pull them onto another heist or any other illegal job just to have them around. He's in love with Inej and loves Jesper like a brother. It's sweet and also sad. He rather keeps them at arm's length, though. It hurts my heart :'( My only complaint is how his trauma was explored in the show. It came off as surfaced-level. Like they didn't thoroughly flush it out. Not sure how to explain it, but it just felt that way, and it felt rushed too. I understand though that it's rushed because it's not only the crows that the writers have to adapt, it's the entirety of the Grishaverse. Idk... I also wanted to see Inej's trauma explored in the show, and I would find myself ticked off when I would see opportunities where they could've but didn't, but a part of me is okay that they haven't yet. I wouldn't want it shoved in, rushed, or brushed over because they're trying to cram in every other character and storyline. I want them to explore her backstory 100%, and I want them to do it right, which would probably mean having to wait until the Six of Crows Spin-off to do so. It is rumored that there's an episode of the spin-off solely for Inej's backstory. I just hope it's true. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼. Anyhow, Freddy killed it as Kaz Brekker, and Kaz is undoubtedly one of my favorite fictional characters overall. I just hope we get the spin-off so we can see more of him :) OH AND STREAM SHADOW AND BONE S2 PLEASE!!! And sorry y'all for these edits constantly. I'm in a Shadow and Bone brain rot, specifically of all the crows :P hope you guys enjoy!! ❤ song - • Son Lux - Sleep (Official Visualizer) #fanvidfeed #kazbrekker #kazbrekkeredit #shadowandbone #sixofcrows
