He was responsible for transforming the Raiders into one of the most renowned franchises in sports. During his tenure, which ended with his death in 2011, the Raiders won three Super Bowls, claimed the 1967 Football League championship before losing to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl II, and competed in nine other championship games. Davis was named AFL Coach of the Year in 1963, NFL Executive of the Year in 1976 and 2002, and served as AFL Commissioner for a few months in 1966, during which he played a crucial role in the AFL's merger with the National Football League.
