Prehistoric Shark Tooth Found While Fossil Hunting on an Uninhabited Island Beach in North Carolina

Hey y'all! Here's some footage from summer 2022 that's been sitting in my cache. Beachcombing is one of my favorite activities here in the Topsail Island, NC region. This stretch of beaches is known for its volume of nice fossils, including shark teeth, which are my favorite! I've been obsessed with sharks and shark teeth since I was a little girl, even though I grew up in southeastern Pennsylvania. So, it's kind of serendipitous that I ended up living here. It was too hot for the fish this day, so I decided to do some fossil hunting. On this day, I was lucky enough to find this prehistoric shark tooth. I believe it comes from the Odotus angustidens, which lived during the Oligocene and Miocene epochs, about 33 to 22 million years ago. It's so cool to know that I'm the first human to ever touch this fossil. I certainly would not want to run into a mouth full of these teeth while swimming! I hope y'all enjoy this video.
