A quick change of plans because of weather, lead us to change our plans and head to Awatere Hut instead of Longview Hut, we also wanted to avoid hiking at night as the weather was not looking too flash. It took only 1hr from the carpark to Awatere Hut, the challenge was then to light the fire as all fire wood was wet and the place quite damp, we eventually got it going using the good old 'Swedish Torch' technique. Was a relatively cold night, with some sporadic hail during our walk and stay over but was enjoyable. Definitely a great track for people starting on tramping, kids, or just for a quick day trip.
