Playing with at least the idea of an Ethiopian sword type, the Shotel. Big shout-out to Da'Mon Stith of HAMAA for introducing so many of us to this wider world of African and African Diaspora fighting arts! Check the links: https://hamaassociation.wordpress.com / damon.stith.7 http://www.silentsword.org/store/c1/F... / 1559419451037192 • Shotelai exploring the Ethiopian Sick... Edited to add - yeah, how could I forget the Chinese hook swords! Another cool weapon that can hook and pull extremely well, although it still doesn't get those fun cut-around-the-shield bonus points! Sure, many cultures have used sickles as basically improvised weapons, since they were readily available agricultural tools, from the European (https://www.woodenswords.com/product_...) to the Japanese Kama, and we have some forward swept Greek (Sika), Indian (Kukri), Indonesian (kerambit) blades, but most of those are basically large knives, while the shotel and its relatives (like the Makraka) are very specifically swords. Anyway, there's a cool and diverse world of swords out there for us to learn about!
