Old Drishane Graveyard | Duhallow Graveyard Stories

IRD Duhallow is delighted to present our first video of #HeritageWeek2024. Recorded under our LEADER 2014-2020 project Training in the Planning, Recording and Publication of Community Led Heritage and Historical Stories, this video features Maurice Lenihan and Seán Radley, with Eilín Kiely also present. We will hear a wonderful account of the history of Drishane including an account of the Wallis and McCarthy families who once occupied the area. Also, recollections of Drishane Convent are shared including an overview of the nun’s graveyard plot where the Sisters of the Infant Jesus (the Drishane Sisters) are interred. Some of the remarkable historic graves of Old Drishane cemetery are also featured.
