Girls Sports Mentorship Unified Business Workshop Empowers 15 Young female sports Athletes. The "Girls Sports Mentorship Unified Business Workshop" has successfully concluded, empowering 15 young women with the skills and knowledge necessary to start and manage their businesses. Spearheading the workshop was Samantha Miyanda, a recipient of the Anita White, IWG Women in Sport Award. Her leadership and vision were instrumental in making the workshop a success, providing the participants with an invaluable learning experience. The workshop, held in collaboration with Special Olympics Zambia, the National Sports Council of Zambia, and Rovert Sports, stands out as a significant initiative aimed at fostering entrepreneurship among girls in sports. The training featured a lineup of esteemed professionals, including Dr. Katongo Bwalya, Nowspar Board chair, Madam Bessie Chelemu, Director of Culture and former Sports Director at the Ministry, Nancy Ntalasha, National Director of Special Olympics Zambia, Morgan Mwesa, an expert from the SMEs, and Madam Brenda Chipenda former CEO of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) and sports Consultant. Each brought their unique expertise to the table, enriching the workshop with practical insights and strategies. A key aspect of the workshop was the inclusion of Special Olympics Zambia athletes in each participant group, promoting the principles of inclusion and teamwork. This collaboration ensured that all participants, regardless of background or ability, could contribute meaningfully to their group's business plans. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants were divided into groups and tasked with developing business plans. These plans will be supported with startup capital, enabling the young entrepreneurs to put their ideas into practice and establish their businesses. The project proprietors will monitor the progress of these businesses, ensuring that the skills learned are effectively applied and that the ventures are sustainable. Speaking after the training, Samantha Miyanda expressed her gratitude to all participants and encouraged them to utilize the knowledge gained to make a positive impact through their projects. She also urged more organizations to support similar initiatives that empower girls in sports with entrepreneurship skills and financial support. As these young women embark on their entrepreneurial journeys, the workshop marks a significant step toward gender equality and economic empowerment in the sports sector. With the continued support of organizations and mentors, the future looks bright for these budding entrepreneurs.
