Fly fishing New Zealand - 'CHASING RAINBOWS' An invitation to fish for Rainbows in a small North Island stream late season, provided myself (Mike Kirkpatrick) and good mate Anton Donaldson an opportunity we couldn't refuse. We winged our way up and were met by my friend Doug Stevens (owner of NZFISHING.COM). It was a unique, and at times, breathtaking rafting trip into some simply stunning country. We had the challenge of fishing to some good sized trout at times but were often frustrated by unseen smaller fish constantly hitting our flies intended for the larger ones. We began to refer to these young and incredibly hard fighting fish as 'blockers' as they seemed to run interference for their bigger cousins. It was just the best fun and we finally started to get into some very nice fish before having to head out.
