Solar is Seiko's proprietary brand where a watch is charged by a thin solar panel affixed to the dial which turns any form of light into volts, the Sun is a very good charging light source but artificial light will also charge these watches up. Citizen have their EcoDrive which is much the same thing. It means you never have to worry about batteries again pretty much for the life of the watch, the cell may expire and unable to retain charge and of course solar panels are quite fragile so these watches have two extra complications over a standard quartz watch but they are pretty rugged pieces nonetheless. Also I am expanding the scope of my channel to bring in model rail, model steam, a series where I do simple tasks on my 1985 Vespa and the same with the Reliant which will likely be up for sale at some point as I want to go back to 2 wheels, 3 wheels is making me lazy and I do love the feel of the open road on 2 wheels, the smell of 2 stroke oil in the wind and just the ability to jump on and wander off without it costing me an arm or a leg or finding somewhere to park etc. Will I be buying another Solar? Yes I want a chronograph version just for the set, I have become somewhat painted into a corner with Soviet watches and am thinking I need to work more on my Japanese pieces like Seiko, Orient, Citizen but keeping still to Seiko being mechanical and maybe expand into some Alba or Lorus as I like the sub brands styling as much as I dislike the much higher prices for modern Seiko's when the exact same Pulsar, Alba or Lorus will sell for a third of the price. Made at the same factory, by the same people but having Seiko instead of Pulsar automatically doubles, trebles the second hand value which is ridiculous.
