The Castellows Hurricane live at Keg's Canal Side in Jordan, New York, on August 9th, 2024

Hurricane is a great cover and closer to ‪@thecastellows‬ live show. The song was originally released by Levon Helm of The Band in 1980 and was reworked by Band of Heathens. This is a great arrangement that highlight's Lily Balkcom's unique vocals (she kinda reminds me of Dolly? Yes? No?). I especially relate to this song as a civil engineer who does flood mitigation for a living and can relate to the man who comes down from Chicago to 'set that levee right'. Check out the Shreveport, Louisiana description for this song for the geeky deep dive into the lyrics and how it relates to the real world of changing river systems - basically, you can't always assume the past will indicate the future in river systems and the Red River in Louisiana is a good example: the same flow from the past will result in greater flooding today because the river is constrained by sediment. A fluvio-geomorphologist (like Stan's dad on South Park) or a water resources engineer will tell you that :) So the less is: "Don't always listen to the old man in the quarter drinking whisky - he may not know that river bathymetry changes over time and flood levels can get worse for the same old rain and hurricane. Sorry for this pointy-headed aside, but the song's lyrics are about real life. Enjoy !!!
