This episode takes place in war-ravaged China near the outskirts of Shanghai. Major Robert Mason is driving through the devastation in route to a refugee camp when he sees a strange looking man dart into the shadows. Mason stops to talk the man and finds out that he recently escaped from the camp…and has a terrifying story to tell! 28. In this episode, a couple just married and enjoying their honeymoon witness a dastardly murder. Unfortunately the killer sees the couple also…and tries to frame them for the crime! 29. In this episode, John Clay awakens in a strange white room that appears to be in a hospital. A doctor and nurse enter to give him some pain medication. As he slips into unconsciousness he finds himself walking down a corridor of closed doors…and one of the doors has his name on it! 30. In this episode, a tantalizing tale about a man who murders his wife and then is tormented by her wails and moans for the next forty years! –––––––––––––––––––– INNER SANCTUM Mystery is a radio drama that originally aired on the Blue Network between January 7, 1941, and October 5, 1952. It was created by producer Himan Brown and was based on the imprint given to the mystery novels of Simon & Schuster. The program's familiar and famed audio trademark was the eerie creaking door which opened and closed the broadcasts. Himan Brown got the idea from a door in the basement. The door sound was actually made by a rusty desk chair. The stories mixed horror and humor in equal doses. Film stars who appeared on the program included: Bela Lugosi, Mary Astor, Helen Hayes, Peter Lorre, Paul Lukas, Claude Rains, Frank Sinatra, and Orson Welles. Most of the lead and supporting players were stalwarts of New York radio. These included Santos Ortega, Larry Haines, Ted Osborne, Luis van Rooten, Stefan Schnabel, Ralph Bell, Mercedes McCambridge, Berry Kroeger, Arnold Moss, Leon Janney, Myron McCormick, and Mason Adams. Players like Richard Widmark, Everett Sloane, Burgess Meredith, Agnes Moorehead, Ken Lynch, and Anne Seymour also found fame or notability in film or television.
