Tornado Warning With Siren Activation - Indianapolis, IN - May 1st, 2016

During the evening of May 1st, 2016 a cold front caused a number of severe thunderstorms to spin up throughout central Indiana prompting many tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings. One storm in particular prompted a tornado warning for the southern half of Marion county. Despite having the ability to only sound the sirens inside of the warning polygon, MCDHS set off the sirens for the entire county. I live in the Broad Ripple area north of downtown Indy so I was technically outside of the warning polygon. I don't particularly agree with setting off the sirens county-wide for a warning affecting only part of the county but hey, I finally got to hear the sirens at my house after living here for 3 years. The storm didn't wind up producing a tornado but dumped tons of hail on the south side of Indy and caused some minor wind damage, knocking out power to around 1500 IPL customers for a couple hours. The closest siren to me is a 2001-130 about 3 blocks away.
