This type of valve is a linear motion valve. Advantages Globe valves can be used for open, close and throttling applications. Seat leakage is low because the disc is pressed at 90 degrees into the seat, this allows for a lot of force to press the disc onto the seat. Disadvantages Z-Body type globe valves have a large pressure drop due to the number of direction changes as the flow passes through the valve. The bonnet is usually larger compared to other similar flow capacity valves. Globe valves are more expensive than other valves with a similar flow capacity. This type of valve is susceptible to damage in systems that suffer from pressure fluctuations/pulsations. Globe valves are usually heavier than equivalent flow capacity valves.
