Fixin' Stuff - My headphones quit working. Let's fix them!

I use my headphones a lot....especially when my wife is watching something on TV that I'm not interested in (which is most of the time). My headphones are just a cheap set from Panasonic, that I got from Amazon, and they have a major failure point....the wires break right where the cord is connected to the plug. My current ones, less than a year old, suffered this failure, so I decided to see if I could fix them instead of shelling out 20 bucks for a new set and sending the old ones (which were basically still perfectly good) to the landfill. Let me bring you along....
