One of our favorite places to hike has to be The Smoky Mountains. Nothing is more peaceful than the sounds of rushing water surrounded by birds chirping and the fresh smell of a well-established forest with little to no signs of human activity. This self-guided nature hike had all of that and more. Situated in the Cosby Campground in Newport Tennessee, Cosby is an out-of-the-way area of the national park that is a favorite among locals and long-time Smokies visitors. Facilities include a campground that is almost never full and a picnic area that's spacious and never too crowded. Cosby Self-Guided Nature Trail is a 1.1 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Cosby, Tennessee that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year-round. Don't forget to pick up a self-guided tour pamphlet in the park before accessing the trail for 50 cents! U.S. Route 321 is the main road in Cosby, connecting the valley to Newport (10 miles to the north) and Gatlinburg (20 miles to the west) Mileage to Cosby Campground: from Gatlinburg-23 from Townsend-50 We love hearing from our fans!
