School pupils from St Matthew’s RC High School in Manchester are releasing an uplifting take on New Order’s song ‘Ceremony’ this week, in support of the Disasters Emergency Committee’s (DEC’s) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. After discussing their feelings and worries about the conflict in Ukraine, pupils enlisted the help of their music teacher and approached New Order to ask for permission to perform and release their own version of the band’s song, ‘Ceremony’, originally recorded in 1981. The DEC’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal is funding the work of 13 leading UK aid charities and their local partners working inside Ukraine and in neighbouring countries. In the six months following the onset of the conflict, they plan to deliver a range of humanitarian aid across five countries, including reaching almost a quarter of a million people with food aid, supporting 200 centres for displaced people and 43 health facilities.
