Yuen Yuen Institute and Western Monastery | Guanyin and cats | Temple hopping

In this video I explore Western Monastery, but I start off in Yuen Yuen Institute first, so there’s a bit of both places. They are right next to each other in the hills of Tseun Wan! Yuen Yuen Institute is the only temple in Hong Kong which is dedicated to the three main Chinese religions in HK - Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. I walk around Yuen Yuen a little and mostly show Taoist Gods, namely the God of Fortune (Choi Sun). The signature building is a replica of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. Western Monastery is right next door, and the complex was built in the 70s to look like a Chinese palace with the traditional yellow roof top tiling. The monastery is dedicated to Buddhism, and as well as having Buddha statues has a beautiful outside garden and grotto section dedicated to Guanyin. It has a nine storey pagoda called the Ten Thousand Buddha pagoda. It is also home to a family of cats! #discoverhk
