Fossil evidence shows that cutthroat trout are as old as the rocks that make up the mountains of Idaho. While other trout species can be found all over the planet, cutthroat trout can only be found in the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Northwest. Because of that, these fish are central to Idaho's cultural identity. Through public support and science-led management, we can continue to protect Idaho’s native species.​ ​ IDFG is celebrating 125 years of wildlife management.
