The Trident II D5 missile is deployed aboard U.S. Navy Ohio-class submarines and Royal Navy Vanguard-class to deter nuclear aggression. The three-stage ballistic missile can travel a nominal range of 4,000 nautical miles and carry multiple independently targeted reentry bodies. On 2 June 2014, during a DASO, USS West Virginia (SSBN-736) launched two unarmed Trident II D5 missiles from the Eastern Range Complex off the coast of Cape Canaveral, Florida, marking the 149th and 150th consecutive successful submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) test flight since 1989. DASO is an acronym for Demonstration and Shakedown Operation. The footage of this event is frequently reused by amateur channels to log more recent D5 test launches in 2021, 2020, 2019 and 2016.
