How to clean a tripod to extend it's life and prevent expensive fails.

Today I walk you through how to clean a tripod from top to bottom and why you should be doing this at least twice a year, this really is vital if you want a tripod to last a good few years. Surprisingly the pieces in the Tripod that actually keep your it and camera and lens in place are really delicate and fairly small. I break down exactly how often I clean my tripods aswell as the process I use, I show you the indivivdual locking pieces, how to take them apart and how to reassemble the tripod then also. Having a tripod fail on you can be incredibly expensive as your camera and lens will fall to the ground from a height and be unprotected. So routinely cleaning your tripod is a very necessary step that we should all be taking. One of the things I mention in the video is not to use any grease on the tripod legs or locking nuts and the reason I say this is, if any of that grease gets on the tripod legs or locking rings then you simply won't have any locking power for the legs then. I much prefer to take the ripod apart very two months and clean off the threads manually, it only takes a few minutes and gives you much better results than having grease and dirt combined to grind down those fine components. If you have any questions then please feel free to ask them, a sever I am only too happy to help. 0:00 Intro 0:26 How often should you clean a tripod? 1:05 How do you know if your tripod needs to be cleaned? 1:44 Checking the legs for dirt. 2:17 Top tripod tip for seascape photographers 2:46 Cleaning the tripod in a few seconds. 3:33 How to disassemble a tripod leg completely. 4:12 The Plastic Shims that help hold your tripod together. 4:29 What do the Plastic shims do? 5:29 The locking rings that hold the tripod legs in place. 6:05 How the locking rings can fail. 6:45 Should you put grease or oil on any part of your tripod? 7:13 Imagine that dirt mixed in with grease and the issues it would cause. 7:45 opening out the second leg section. 7:55 Opening the third leg section 8:10 How to clean out the inside of the tripod legs. 9:03 A handy little tip for cleaning the inside of the tripod legs quickly. 9:40 Checking the locking ring for damage. 10:20 Reassembling the tripod. 10:55 Test your tripod every week or two, it only takes a second. 11:31 Opening the second tripod for cleaning and showing the construction. 12:29 Opening the Third tripod, showing the construction. 12:52 Replacing parts in your tripod and the costs involved.
