The wrought ironworks at Blists Hill Victorian Town, situated opposite the remains of the Blast Furnaces, is the result of not just one rescue operation but two, which have been successfully joined to form a single exhibit. The building itself is a cast-iron framed building originally built in 1815 at the Woolwich dockyard in London. It was designed by the engineer John Rennie, and anchors for navy ships were produced there. The machinery and furnaces inside are from Thomas Walmsley's Atlas Forge in Bolton, which closed in 1976. It was the last wrought-iron works in Britain to produce wrought iron commercially. It's quite rare to see the machinery in operation, but during three days at the end of July 2011 Museum staff operated the furnaces, shingling hammer and rolling mill, and that's what this video shows.
